     The Edge jet boat from its initial conception has harbored the single focal point of developing maximum performance into a pleasure craft. At the heart of Edge Marine is a family that is deeply rooted in white water boating and pleasure. Real Race technology is now integrated throughout the entire edge marine line. Components that make up an Edge Marine Boat is the, Radius Bottom, FAST System, and Lifting Strake Package, and Stealth Exhaust.

Radius Bottom:

The Exclusive Jet Radius bottom design was originally developed to gain a competitive edge in the highly competitive white water racing circuit. The unique bottom offers improvements in planning, acceleration, straight-line speed, turning radius, payload capacity, shallow draft displacement and fuel efficiency. Further the Radius Bottom Hull is stronger pound for pound in terms of a collision with a obstacle, than any other bottom type available today.

     Why does the Jet Radius Bottom work so well? Simple, because it creates far more lift upon the water surface than does any conventional hull available today. With more lift you can go faster and further with less power.

     The Edge Marine goal has been to develop a boat with superior handling at all speeds and safe in all conditions; a boat that is predictable, while still being an absolute thrill to drive! The Radius Bottom Hull has allowed the family for the first time ever to produce a boat that is just that.

More Tech Talk on the Radius Bottom

     Picture for a moment the bow and bottom shape of any vessel you can think of. There are two traditional types of hulls: V or modified V hulls and Flat Bottom Hulls.

In a V Hull the bow and/or bottom shape is knife-shaped and designed to penetrate the water with the least resistance, pushing the water aside. This bottom works fairly well in straight line applications, as it is good for planning. It is also relatively smooth riding, and can be adequate for rough water applications, but is slow, handles poorly while cornering due to limited lift, has a very limited minimal draft in shallow water applications and is inherently inefficient as it tends to "sit" or "drag" beneath the surface.

The flat Bottom Hull creates better lift, making for a quicker, faster, better-shallow running boat, but it is very uncomfortable to ride in, as the flat hull tends to "slap", making for a very rough ride. The Flat Bottom is also very difficult for a beginner or amateur boater to operate as it has very unpredictable handling, and it tends to "slide" uncontrollably while cornering and/or running in rougher or white water conditions.

Edge F.A.S.T. System

     The internal combustion engine depends on a critical fuel/oxygen mixture for optimum power and performance.  A well-known fact of turbo-charger technologies is that cooler air has more oxygen per cubicc foot than warm air, the molecules are less active and are closer together.  Specially designed cowling scoops on the gunwale of a Edge Marine jet boat captures fresh cool air from the exterior of the boat, pipes it through insulated ducts and delivers it directly to the engine.  This results in more power and efficient fuel consumption.

In most jet boat designs, the intake air comes directly from the covered engine compartment and is up to 3-4 times warmer than ambient air temperature.  This substantially reduces horsepower and efficient fuel consumption.  Additionally, in the remote possibility of a backfire, the explosive gasses are funneled outside of the boat instead of inside the engine compartment, reducing any risk of fire.
